Except those listed are all private institutions.

and?

Miami wants to be compared against some of the BEST universities in the country, some are private, some are public.

A better question is going to be how much more money will be cut from Higher Ed now that there will be yet another budget shortfall. So much for Strickland giving Universities more money.

and I was just noting the most expensive were private. That's all. It interesting to note that every university talks about rising costs and that is why costs are going up so astronomically that the average American can't afford to go without incurring massive debt, yet that money isn't being funneled down to all the faculty members. In many ways it makes one think that this is more of perpetuation of the wealthy elite class at the expense of those less financially enabled to begin with, as far as who can attend. Also, most of those increased costs are unrelated to faculty compensation increases.

Looking at that top five illustrates that smaller private colleges without substantial fiscal endowments are in sort of a no-man's land. They have to charge huge "rack rate" tuition (and hope to get some full-price customers) in order to fund financial aid for the rest.

FWIW, I recently compared Ivy tuitions to non-resident tuitions for Oxford and Cambridge, and it got me thinking that having DC#1 six hours away (but on the other side of the Atlantic) wouldn't be too bad. American applicants can submit AP scores in lieu of A-levels.
